Matt Maher Information
Matthew Guion Maher (November 19, 1974) is a Canadian contemporary Christian music (CCM) artist, songwriter, and worship leader. Growing up, he took piano lessons, immersed himself in music of many genres, sang in a choir, played in a garage rock band, and performed in concert and jazz bands because his parents saw his talent.
After completing his undergraduate degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Maher continued his education at Arizona State University's Jazz Department. He received his first Platinum certification for his song "Lord, I Need You" from the RIAA on October 12, 2018. After penetrating the Christian singles chart and peaking at number five, his song "Alive and Breathing" began to appear on more mainstream charts in June 2020, penetrating number three on Rolling Stone's Trendy 25 list and number twenty-five on Billboard's Hits of the week.
Three-holiday specials in Dallas Jenkins's The Chosen series include Maher. For Christmas 2020, Maher sang "Hope For Everyone" alongside The Chosen: The Shepherd. Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers in 2021 included Maher's rendition of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" with a Celtic flavor. Releasing on December 12, 2023, the special "Christmas with The Chosen: Holy Night" featured Maher's "Hark..." music video.
