Martyn Joseph Information
Martyn Joseph (July 15, 1960) is a Welsh singer and songwriter. He was born in Penarth, Wales. Since he was ten years old, when Joseph first picked up a golf club, he has been a devoted player. After becoming the youngest player to win the Glamorganshire Golf Club Championship at the age of 17, he began playing golf at the age of 15. He also competed for Glamorgan County and the British Youth and Amateur Championships in the 1980s, winning both titles twice. Even now, Joseph is a dedicated novice golfer who has a handicap of 4.
In 1983 Joseph started his recording career, releasing five albums throughout the '80s. His 1989 independently released album, An Aching and a Longing (Myrrh Records), sold 30,000 copies and garnered him enough attention for Sony Records to sign him. With the 1992 release of Being There, he debuted with a big label. Ben Wisch created it to achieve sparser arrangements. Joseph collaborated with lyricist Stewart Henderson and worked creatively with Pete Brookes.
After a year had passed since the release of Being There, Joseph released an album titled Undrugged, which contained live renditions of the songs from Being There. Martyn Joseph, his second and final album for Sony, was recorded by Mick Glossop, whose resume also includes recordings with The Waterboys. Martyn Joseph's debut song, "Talk About It in the Morning," was written by Robinson and Robinson and was released in 1995; it peaked in the Top 50 on the UK Singles Chart.
