With Colins "Bear" Regisford on bass and vocals, Kaleen Reading on drums and percussion, Maxine Steen on guitar and keyboards, and Marisa Dabice on guitar and vocals, the Philadelphia rock band has released four albums of uplifting music about depressing times.
Mannequin Pussy released their third studio album, Patience, in 2019, and then they were back in 2021 with the EP Perfect. Along with guitarist Maxine Steen's formal group addition, they tirelessly toured that record. The band members found solace and clarity throughout their time spent touring together during periods of personal turmoil, including breakups, moving homes, and periods of introspection.
The band had collaborated with Congleton in Los Angeles on 17 new songs by December 2022. Maxine Steen, a new member who has worked with Dabice on several projects (including Rosie Thorne), was pivotal during the creative process. "I Got Heaven," the first track on the album, was a demo by Steen.
