Lupillo Rivera Information
Guadalupe Rivera Saavedra is a Mexican-American singer and songwriter. Rivera won a Grammy in 2010 for his album Tu Esclavo y Amo. Late singer and actress Jenni Rivera was his elder sister. He was a coach on TV Azteca's 2019 season of La Voz, a Mexican singing competition show, after being acquired from Televisa after seven seasons.
Following graduation, Rivera started working for his father, musician Pedro Rivera, under his record company, Cintas Acuario. Although it was an administrative job, his father urged him to keep working on his music, and he started a solo career under the name Lupillo in 1993. Though he started slowly, in 1999, he appeared on the Californian Latin Charts with the "El Moreño" track and signed a recording contract with Sony Discos.
That was the turning point in Rivera's career. At the 2002 Lo Nuestro Awards, he won three prizes for his album "Despreciado," Best Regional Mexican Male Artist, Best Regional Mexican Album, and Best Banda Artist. More nominations poured in, and Rivera started to show more often on charts in the 2000s. Rivera appeared on the U.S. Telemundo edition of La Casa de los famosos in 2024; he placed third and received a $50,000 prize.
