Luis Alfonso Rodríguez López-Cepero (April 15, 1978), often known as Luis Fonsi, is a Puerto Rican singer. He is known for his soulful and dance-oriented tunes, most famously 2017's "Despacito." Thanks to the song "Aquí Estoy Yo," Fonsi won Song of the Year and received his first Latin Grammy Award nomination in the Record of the Year category.
Three Billboard Latin Music Awards are more accolades the song received. Following its 2017 premiere, the mega-hit song "Despacito" became popular, and Luis Fonsi became a household celebrity. With Daddy Yankee, the song topped 2.5 billion views quicker than any video on YouTube has seen. Justin Bieber remixed the song, debuting at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, ranking Fonsi first on the list.
Fonsi participated in the 2019 Pan American Games opening ceremony in Lima, Peru, on July 26, 2019. At the ceremony, he performed several songs, including his global smash "Despacito." In November 2023, Fonsi performed the guest narration for Disney's Candlelight Processional at Walt Disney World.
