McAlpine rose to fame after publishing cover versions of her songs on SoundCloud and YouTube. Indigo, McAlpine's first extended play, was published in 2018. Give Me a Minute, her first studio album, was written when she was a student in Spain in the fall of 2019. August 2020 saw the album's release, and reviews were rave.
Spotify and other streaming services have counted millions of listens to the record. It was rated one of 2020's top albums by the Dallas Observer. She received positive reviews for her 2020 first studio album, Give Me a Minute. With the help of the TikTok-viral hit "Ceilings" off her sophomore album Five Seconds Flat (2022), she made her debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and the U.S. Billboard 200.
With her 2023 deal with RCA Records officially sealed, McAlpine has announced the release of her third studio album, Older, on April 5, 2024, with the first song of the same name as a promotional tool. "Older" was McAlpine's first single of 2024, and it came out on February 13. Released on April 5, 2024, her third studio album reflects "who [she] became over the past three years," as she revealed on the same day. Starting on April 21, she is set to travel across North America and Europe on the Older Tour to promote the project.
