Liz Brasher Information
Singer and guitarist Liz Brasher got her start in her native North Carolina church choirs. She expanded into the vintage soul music she encountered in Chicago, Illinois, to create her diverse retro-soul sound, which encompasses soul, adult pop, rock, blues, and gospel. Her first full-length, Painted Image, was recorded at Memphis, Tennessee's storied studios in 2019.
Brasher was influenced by the Beatles, the Delta blues, and the Southern soul while growing up in a Dominican-Italian household in rural North Carolina. As a college student in Chicago, she studied American music history, becoming familiar with the songs of songwriters like Stephen Foster and Lead Belly, and subsequently Bob Dylan and the Staple Singers. As time went on, she learned the guitar and started penning songs.
Brasher played her first gigs after moving to Atlanta, Georgia, but her love of the city's legendary soul music drove her to Memphis. There she found the idea for her first EP, Outcast, and a new career as a songwriter. It was released by Fat Possum Records in April of 2018 and was promoted by tours with the Zombies and Red Wanting Blue. The label also released her first full-length, Painted Image, in January 2019. The Electraphonic Recording, Ardent, and Royal Studios in Memphis were responsible for the recording.
