La Roux Information
La Roux is an English “Synth-pop” act that was formed by record producer Ben Langmaid and singer Eleanor “Elly” Jackson in 2006. They released their debut album “La Roux” in 2009 and received a full commercial success. The collection also produced some hit singles such as “Bulletproof” and “In for the Kill.”
Langmaid and Jackson met each other when one of their mutual friends introduced them in 2006. They became good friends and started to work on their first project called “Automan.” This project was based on acoustic music because Jackson greatly admired acts like Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake. Although, Jackson then shifted her interest towards electronic music.
In December 2008, La Roux released their debut single “Quicksand” under the independent record French label Kitsune Music. Later on, to release their first album, La Roux then signed to Polydor Records. Their second single was “In For The Kill” that was released on March 16, 2009, and by March 22, 2009, “In For The Kill” peaked no. Eleven on the UK Singles Chart as well as hitting the 2nd spot just four weeks later.
La Roux released their second single “Bulletproof” on 21 June 2009. The single topped at no. 1 on the UK Singles Chart. On August 11, 2009, the song was released in the United States, reaching the top of the Hot Dance Club Songs chart. It had reached no.8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by June 11, 2010, with over 2 million copies sold.
La Roux has released a few more albums so far, including “Trouble In Paradise” (2014), whereas “Supervision” is announced to be released in 2020. The band has won several awards, such as Grammy Awards for the category “Best Electronic/Dance Album” for “La Roux,” O2 Silver Clef Awards for the “Best Newcomer,” and several others.
