"On Los Angeles' famous Olvera Street, shopkeepers recall a young girl singing Spanish boleros for tourists who occasionally dropped spare change in a hat nearby." Eva Marisol Hernandez, also known as La Marisoul, was born in Los Angeles' thriving downtown area. Her musical taste was informed by the duality of her upbringing, which included exposure to contemporary American culture and the origins of traditional folk music in Mexico.
La Marisoul replaced La Santa Cecilia as the band's lead singer in 2007. (named after the Patron Saint of musicians). La Santa Cecilia has played everywhere, from underground rock clubs to outdoor festivals across the United States and Mexico. When La Santa Cecilia's album "Treinta Dias" was released in 2014, it was nominated for a Grammy and took home the Best Latin Rock Album (Universal Music) trophy. Both their 2017 album "Buenaventura" (Universal Music) and their 2018 album "Amar Y Vivir" (Universal Music) earned them nominations in the same category.
La Marisoul also performs under her name and has appeared in films like The Bridge (2013), Artbound Presents Studio A (2013), and Mavericks (2013). (2015). She was the first Ranchero musician to appear on MTV Unplugged, which she did as a guest performer on Pepe Aguilar's show.
