Kikagaku Moyo is a Japanese psychedelic band that originated in Tokyo. If we translate the band's name, it says "geometric patterns." The group's current lineup consists of Go Kurosawa, Tomo Katsurada, Kotsu Guy, Daoud Popal, and Ryu Kurosawa. The band started in 2012 when Go Kurosawa met Tomo Katsurada. They both had similar interests in movies, fashion, and music. Soon they decided to start playing together.
Go was familiar with the piano, while on the other hand, Tomo knew how to play the cello. Having little to no prior experience in the instruments, both were willing to play in the band. They used to play in an old studio during the initial days. Their friend used to work in that studio. Soon the three began busking on Tokyo streets. They start performing outside of busy train stations and similar spots.
Kikagaku Moyo attempted to set up psyche festivals all around Tokyo. They charge around five dollars for entry. The aim behind this was to provide a cheap and accessible music scene to music lovers. Still, they failed to gain some notable fame and progress. According to one of their interviews, the members stated that people disliked their setup. They were more into rules.
The initial crowds who used to listen to the band were mostly foreigners. This highly inspired the group members to go abroad and try their luck. In 2014, their first-ever tour took place. The band played the Levitation festival, which took place in Australia.
