Khruangbin Information
Khruangbin, pronounced as KRUNG-bin, is a musical trio from Houston, Texas. They started turning heads in 2015 when they released their first full album, The Universe Smiles Upon You. Their sound was unlike anything else, smooth, laid-back, and full of cool grooves. The band mixes sounds from all over the world, blending funk, soul, surf rock, and Thai pop into something totally their own. The name “Khruangbin” means “airplane” in Thai, which fits their global style. They play mostly instrumental music, with soft vocals that float in and out, giving everything a dreamy, relaxed feel.
The group began in Texas, with guitarist Mark Speer, bassist Laura Lee, and drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson. They first gained fans by touring and playing small shows, where their calm, funky sound stood out. Albums like Con Todo El Mundo (2018) and Mordechai (2020) helped them grow a loyal following. Their music feels perfect for a sunset drive or a chill night at home. Even without many words, their songs tell stories through rhythm and feeling. They’ve worked with artists like Leon Bridges and Toro y Moi, adding vocals and new sounds while keeping their cool, mellow vibe.
In 2025, Khruangbin is on the road with their A La Sala tour, named after their newest album that dropped earlier this year. They play shows in big cities like Austin, New York, and San Francisco. The tour features live versions of songs from A La Sala and fan favorites from records. Each show is full of mood, groove, and deep musical connection. With soft lights, smooth sounds, and signature stage presence, this year’s concerts give fans something truly special.
