Kevin Devine Information
Kevin Devine (December 19, 1979) is an American musician and songwriter. He was born and raised in Brooklyn and Staten Island and lived in Manhattan and Queens. Devine earned his bachelor's degree in journalism from Fordham University at Lincoln Center in 2001, where he also wrote for the school newspaper, The Fordham Observer.
Devine began his career in the band Delusion, which ultimately became Miracle of 86. (referring to the 1986 New York Mets). He perfects his solo, acoustic style by performing at different open-mic and college events while at Fordham. Devine's debut solo album, Circle Gets the Square, was released in 2002 under the Immigrant Sun Records label and was produced by Bill Manoudakis. He also performed at the Wetlands Preserve in New York City regularly.
Make the Clocks Move, Devine's 2003 CD, helped him earn some notoriety. The songs on this album represent Devine's political ideas and an increasingly introspective approach, influenced by his father's recent stroke death. These two styles would define Devine's music in the years to come.
Devine played with River City Extension in March 2011 and issued a split 7" EP. On the EP, Devine performs an acoustic version of "Between the Concrete and Clouds" and a Tom Petty cover, "Walls." In commemoration of Nirvana's famous album Nevermind's 20th anniversary, Kevin Devine covered the entire album and made it available for free download on his website.
