John Doe Information

John Nommensen Duchac (February 25, 1953) is an American actor, poet, singer, and songwriter. He is professionally known as John Doe. He was born in Decatur, Illinois. After relocating to Los Angeles, California, Doe answered an ad placed by guitarist Billy Zoom in the free weekly tabloid The Recycler in 1976. As a member of X, Doe has been in two full-length concert films, multiple music videos, and the groundbreaking documentary The Decline of Western Civilization by Penelope Spheeris, chronicling the early 1980s L.A. punk scene.

Doe has released roughly a dozen albums since 1990, either as a solo artist or in cooperation with others, and has also written music for several films. When Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston's characters are dancing in The Bodyguard (1992), it is Doe's rendition of "I Will Always Love You" that plays on the jukebox.

Warner Bros. released it on audio cassette in September of 1992, but to our knowledge, there has yet to be a CD release. He collaborated with Tyler Willman to pen and perform on "Lobotomy," which appeared on Calm Down Juanita's self-titled 1998 debut album. Great Balls of Fire!, released in 1989, starred Doe as Jerry Lee Lewis's cousin-turned-father-in-law J. W. Brown. In addition to his role in the 1998 short Lone Greasers, he also had roles in the 1992 features Roadside Prophets and Pure Country.
