Joel Hoekstra Information
Joel Hoekstra (December 13, 1970) is an American guitarist. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa. Joining Night Ranger in 2008, Hoekstra's guitar work complements that of guitarist Brad Gillis. Hoekstra starred in the music videos for the songs "Growin' Up in California," "Knock Knock Never Stop," and "High Road," and he also toured with Night Ranger. While on tour with Night Ranger in 2011, Joel stepped in for Mick Jones in Foreigner.
Alongside fellow guitarist Reb Beach, Hoekstra joined Whitesnake in 2014. Hoekstra was a part of the band that reworked David Coverdale's iconic Deep Purple songs for the album The Purple (May 2015). Hoekstra was featured in music videos for the songs "Stormbringer," "Gypsy," and "Soldier of Fortune" from The Purple Album, and "Shut Up & Kiss Me" and "Trouble is Your Middle Name" from the Flesh and Blood Album.
Six of Flesh and Blood's songs feature Hoekstra as a co-writer alongside Coverdale. Hoekstra was Cher's guitarist during her Here We Go Again Tour from 2018-2020. During her Las Vegas residency at the Monte Carlo, he was Cher's guitarist. Hoekstra was Cher's guitarist at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards when she accepted the Icon Award, and they performed "Believe" and "If I Could Turn Back Time."
