Joe Russo's Almost Dead is a band from the US that has been performing since 2013. On January 26, 2013, Furthur and Joe Russo (drummer for Benevento/Russo Duo) debuted as a new band at the Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, New York. Joe Russo is on drums. The group also features Dave Dreiwitz (bass) and Marco Benevento (keyboards) from Ween, as well as Scott Metzger (guitar/vocals) and Tom Hamilton (guitar/vocals; Brothers Past; Ghost Light; American Babies).
In January, JRAD made its Jam Cruise debut, playing two sold-out evenings in the Pantheon Theatre and a session on the Pool Deck. Their debut performance was scheduled at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in July, opening for Umphrey's McGee. Freak's Ball XVI occurred at the Brooklyn Bowl from March 24-26, 2016. It was revealed in February that Joe Russo's Almost Dead would perform there for three nights.
The band also played New York City's Brooklyn Bowl for twelve sold-out shows in the spring and fall of 2017. They debuted "Keeping it Simple," a song that band members Russo and Hamilton wrote for their 100th performance. The release began their spring residency at the Brooklyn Bowl on March 9.
Following three sold-out shows at New York's Capitol Theatre in January, JRAD kicked off its spring tour on February 15 in Nashville, Tennessee. The tour included a special guest vocalist, Nicole Atkins, playing their hit "Doin' That Rag."
Rolling Stone named JRAD's performance at the Peach Festival the "Best Scene-Stealer," saying that the group "takes improvisational jam rock to the nth degree."
