Jeff Black Information
Jeff Black (1962) is an American singer-songwriter, producer, and recording artist from Kansas City, Missouri, although currently, he is based in Nashville, Tennessee. His music is defined as folk and alternative. At the age of 10, he received his first guitar as a birthday present. Black began performing at Blayney's, a Kansas City blues club, and also worked as a bouncer there. Soon he started to tour and eventually relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. He re-connected with Kansas City friend, Iris DeMent.
Birmingham Road is the first album by Black that was recorded with the members of the band Wilco, minus lead singer Jeff Tweedy. The writings of Jeff Black have been defined as impressionistic songs. Waylon Jennings has even covered his songs as well as Sam Bush, Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, and BlackHawk (they covered the Black song, "That's Just About Right"). "King Of The World" was another song by Black that was a Top 30 Country single in 1998. He co-wrote the title track Circles Around Me along with Sam Bush for his 2009 Grammy-nominated album with the same title name.
Jeff Black has released 10 of his self-produced albums and toured worldwide. He is also recognized as a digital music pioneer for his podcast, Black Tuesdays, by NPR. Some of the other notable albums by Black are Honey and Salt (2003), B-Sides and Confessions, Volume One (2003), Tin Lily (2005), Sleepy Town (2007), Mining For Gold (2008), Christmas Sunshine (2009), Plow Through The Mystic (2011), B-Sides and Confessions, Volume Two (2013), Folklore (2014), and finally A Walk In The Sun (2020).
