Jane Siberry Information
Jane Siberry (October 12, 1955) is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Toronto, Ontario. She is also known by her birth name Jane Stewart. Siberry is a composer, musician, record producer, and poet who has played piano from the age of four. She also learned conventional music theory at school and taught herself how to play the guitar. At the age of seventeen, Siberry completed her first song. She graduated from Richview Collegiate in Etobicoke, Ontario, and attended the Canadian Junior College, Lausanne, Switzerland. Later, she moved to the University of Guelph and focused her studies on microbiology.
Jane Siberry started to perform in folk clubs in Guelph, where she connected with singer Wendy Davis. The two were joined by bass guitarist John Switzer and created a group called Java Jive though the band disbanded in 1979. However, Siberry maintained both a musical and romantic relationship with John Switzer. She also worked as a waitress to support her work as a performer. Jane Siberry was her debut album released in 1981 on Duke Street Records.
Some of her other notable albums include No Borders Here (1984), The Speckless Sky (1985), The Walking (1987), The Speckless Sky (1985), The Walking (1987), Bound by the Beauty (1989) When I Was a Boy (1993), Maria (1995), A Day in the Life (1997), and Shushan the Palace: Hymns of Earth (2003). She also released four live albums from 1994-1999.
Jane Siberry's vocals appeared on Presented By Lake Michigan Soda by Bob Wiseman in 1991. She also sings "The Bridge" on the Joe Jackson album Heaven & Hell. Additionally, she provided backup vocals on Emmylou Harris' album Stumble into Grace in 2003.
