Igor and The Red Elvises are a Russian-American band. Their music incorporates funk, surf, traditional Russian music, disco, folk, rockabilly, and reggae. They were created in the mid-1990s in California and are based in Los Angeles.
Igor Yuzov, Oleg Bernov, and Zhenya Rock formed the Red Elvises in 1995. Igor and Oleg met on a Russian-American peace walk and later collaborated in the Russian folk-rock band Limpopo. Zhenya Rock (a.k.a. Kolykhanov), the band's third original member, had been the lead guitarist of the Red Elvises until 2004. Andrey Baranov was the band's drummer for the first few months, but within a year, the first American in the roster, drummer Avi Sills from Austin, Texas, was added to the lineup. The band started on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California.
The FX television channel hired Red Elvises to perform on the beach in Malibu in 1999 for their Beverly Hills, 90210 Swimsuit Beach Party, which featured a marathon screening of syndicated episodes of the hit show. The victors and ten of their friends were flown to the beach party by FX to appear on television and dance to the band's music. Later, they composed the theme, score, and songs for the animated series Mike, Lu, and Og on Cartoon Network.
