Hot Chip Information
Hot Chip is an English synth-pop band that was formed in the year 2000 in London. The current members of the group are multi-instrumentalists Alexis Taylor, Al Doyle, Owen Clarke, Joe Goddard, and Felix Martin. For live performances and studio recordings, the members are occasionally supplemented by Rob Smoughton and Sarah Jones. The group's music is generally described as house, alternative dance, synth-pop, and indie electronic.
Hot Chip initiated as a bedroom recording project that was meant for Taylor and Goddard. The two met while being students at the Elliott School, Putney. The two of them completed two EPs named Mexico (2001) and San Francisco (2002). Later, the group released its debut album titled Coming on Strong (2004). The Warning (2006) was the second album by Hot Chip that got nominated for the Mercury Prize. Some of the other successful records by the band are Made in the Dark (2008), One Life Stand (2010), In Our Heads (2012), A Bath Full of Ecstasy (2019), and Why Make Sense? (2015).
Hot Chip also appeared in several big festivals such as V Festival, Dour Festival, Glastonbury, Sónar, Benicassim, Electric Picnic, Treasure Island Festival, Roskilde Festival, the Reading and Leeds Festivals, the Big Day Out, T in the Park, Summer Sundae, Splendour In The Grass, Lollapalooza, and many more. The group is also famous for its DJ talent as they have released many mix and CDs for international and national radio stations.
Hot Chip won the AIM Independent Music Awards 2019 for the category of Independent Video of the Year and two UK Music Video Awards 2008 and 2010. The band was also nominated for several awards, including Q Awards, PLUG Awards, Popjustice £20 Music Prize, Ivor Novello Awards, International Dance Music Awards, Ibiza Music Video Festival, and Grammy Awards.
