Hacienda Brothers Information
The Hacienda Brothers are an alternative country band that originated in 2002 in Tucson, Arizona, when two friends Chris Gaffney and Dave Gonzalez began playing together. The current lineup of the band includes Chris Gaffney - vocal and accordion, Dave Gonzalez - vocal and guitar, Dave Berzansky - pedal steel guitar, Dale Daniel – drums, and Hank Maninger - bass guitar. The group has been defined as "the finest country-rock band since the Flying Burrito Brothers in their prime," as well as "the best country band of the decade." The music of The Hacienda Brothers is defined as Americana, alt-country, country rock, rockabilly, Bakersfield sound revival, blues, and country soul type. The group itself calls its music style "western Soul."
The Hacienda Brothers released their self-titled debut in 2005. It was produced by the legendary Dan Penn and followed by What's Wrong with Right the following year. In 2007, the band came up with Music for Ranch & Town (Live), and in 2008, they released Arizona Motel. The second album by the group was chosen by the alternative country magazine No Depression and stated to be one of the top 60 albums for 2006. In 2007, The Hacienda Brothers were nominated for "Group of the Year" by the American Music Association.
Unfortunately, on April 17, 2008, Chris Gaffney passed away from liver cancer. The group toured in support of a tribute album for Gaffney in 2008. The tribute album was released in 2009, entitled A Man of Somebody's Dreams: A Tribute to the Songs of Chris Gaffney.
