Gunhild Carling (May 7, 1975) is a Swedish jazz musician and multi-instrumentalist born in Gothenburg. She is better known for playing three trumpets at the same time. Carling came to prominence for her performance at Allsang pa Skansen on July 20, 2010. She became an expert commentator at SVT for Dansbandskampen in 2010. Carling plays string instruments such as harp, ukulele, banjo, recorder, trumpet, bagpipes, and trombone. She often showcases her all-instrumental skills in a single song.
Carling has competed as a celebrity dancer in Let’s Dance 2014 on TV4, where she secured third place. She performed with “Carling Big Band” at the Royal Palace in Stockholm during King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Ruby Jubilee in 2013. She also performed at King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 70th birthday celebration in 2016. Carling has been featured as a singer and multi-instrumentalist in several of Scott Bradlee’s adaptations of pop songs, including a jazz swing version of “Material Girl.”
Carling was featured at TEDxArendal in 2016, where she spoke and played trombone. According to her, the trombone is her favorite instrument. Her major musical influences include Billie Holiday, Bix Beiderbecke, Jelly Roll Morton, Freddie Keppard, and Louis Armstrong.
