Godspeed You! Black Emperor (also known as GY! BE or Godspeed) is a Canadian post-rock band formed in Montreal, Quebec, in 1994. The ensemble publishes albums via Constellation, an independent record company housed in Montreal. Released in 1997, the group's first album, F? A? 8 , was toured consistently from 1998 to 2003. Critics praised their second album, Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven (2000), which ranked among the greatest albums of the decade.
The band stopped performing in 2003 to pursue other musical interests after Yanqui U.X.O. (2002) came out. A copy of All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling was uploaded to 4chan's music board in February 2021. On February 14, the band finally posted the entire tape's audio on their own Bandcamp website.
The band premiered three new unnamed tracks at the Knockdown Center in New York City on February 24, 2024. Supported by the lead track "Gray Rubble – Green Shoots," the band revealed its eighth album, No Title, on August 28, 2024, with 28,340 Dead. Its title has been seen as a hint to Wafa's stated death toll of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip during the Israel–-Hamas conflict.
