Seth Applebaum, a composer who plays multiple instruments, is responsible for creating Ghost Funk Orchestra. A recording endeavor that initially consisted of just one person has now expanded into a ten-member, high-energy live band. It is a sonic kaleidoscope that defies category categorization yet draws considerable inspiration from the worlds of soul music, psych-rock music, salsa music, and more. Their innovative combination of musical styles has garnered accolades from publications such as Bandcamp, KUTX, Brooklyn Vegan, and Earmilk, amongst others.
Local New York site Post-Trash referred to their music as a "psych odyssey of classic sounds delivered in a non-traditional manner." This aptly describes the band's sound. J. Edward Keyes, who serves as the Editorial Director of Bandcamp, lauded the band for their ability to "leave no funk-adjacent genre untouched." GFO is now hard at work producing their follow-up long-player, scheduled to be released on Karma Chief in the fall of 2020. This comes from their highly appreciated 2019 album, "A Song For Paul."
