Gaby Moreno Information
Maria Gabriela Morena Bonilla (December 16, 1981) is a Guatemalan guitarist, singer, and songwriter. She is professionally known by her stage name, Gaby Moreno. Guatemala City was the birthplace of Moreno. In an October 2008 podcast, KCRW's Ariana Morgernstern, producer of Morning Becomes Eclectic, featured Moreno and gave her song "Song of You" titled "Today's Top Tune." "Its organic and unobtrusive feel" took her by surprise, she added. In both English and Spanish, she sings well. With her song "Escondidos," she took first place in the Latin category and then overall in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2006.
Moreno and her co-writer Vincent Jones were nominated for an Emmy in "Outstanding Main Title Theme Music" in July 2010 for their theme song for NBC's Parks and Recreation. In 2010, Moreno was named "Favorite American Latino Indie Artist" (run by American Latino TV) at the American Latino Awards. Moreno went on tour with Tracy Chapman, a well-known singer-songwriter, in August 2009.
In collaboration with arranger and producer Van Dyke Parks, Gaby Moreno released a cover of Trinidadian musician David Rudder's 1998 song "The Immigrants" ahead of the 4th of July celebration in 2018, with earnings benefiting CARECEN.
