Frames Information
The Frames are an Irish rock band founded in 1990 and originated from Dublin, Ireland. The group’s music is classified as indie rock, folk, and rock, and it has been highly influential in the Dublin rock music scene. Frames’ current lineup consists of Glen Hansard: vocals, guitar; Colm Mac Con Iomaire: keyboards, vocals, violin; Joe Doyle: bass guitar, vocals; Rob Bochnik: guitar, vocals; and Dave Hingerty. Some of the former members include Noreen O’Donnell, Paul Brennan (Binzer), and Graham Downey.
Frames got their name from Hansard’s habit of fixing his friend’s bicycle. The band is known for collaborating with other groups that also emerged from the buskers on Grafton Street. Some of the notable groups are Mic Christopher and Kíla. They are known for interspersing snippets of other artists’ songs into their own as a form of homage. Some of the hit examples are “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash, “Redemption Song” by Bob Marley, and “Lilac Wine” by James Shelton.
Another Love Song was the first studio album by Frames, released in 1991. It was followed by Fitzcarraldo (1995), Dance the Devil (1999), For the Birds (2001), Burn the Maps (2004), The Cost (2006), and Longitude (2015). The group also released several notable singles and EPs such as “The Dancer” (1991), “Masquerade” (1992), Turn on Your Record Player EP (1992), Angel at My Table (1994), Rent Day Blues EP (1999), Lay Me Down (2001), and The Roads Outgrown EP (2003).
