Cole Gann, the lead singer and guitarist for the Los Angeles band Forty Feet Tall, and Jack Sehres first became friends when they were young (guitar). The band the two formed in high school combined elements of alternative rock, post-punk, and grunge to create its distinctive sound. By the time they graduated, Forty Feet Tall had amassed a large enough fan base to place them on stages like the Troubadour, Roxy, and the Whiskey. The band began tiny, performing at a benefit to conserve the rainforest.
Cole and Jack moved to Portland and San Francisco, respectively, for college, but the band kept playing while they concentrated on academics. 2014 saw the self-titled album Forty Feet Tall, followed a few years later by the Red Dressed EP. In 2017, the foursome welcomed bassist Brett Marquette, and subsequently, drummer Ian Kelley strengthened the group's potent rhythm section.
The band's hard-edged, wide-ranging style caught the attention of music supervisors for television and motion pictures. You may have heard FFT originals in recent years on Showtime's Shameless, in several MTV commercials, in the Paramount film Drunk Wedding, and even in an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie (Killing Gunther).
