Estopa Information
Estopa is a Spanish rock-rumba duo. The current lineup consists of David Muñoz Calvo and José Manuel Muñoz Calvo. José and David's band name, "Estopa," is derived from the phrase "Dale Estopa a la Maquina," yelled by their manager to keep everyone on task at the factory where they made vehicle parts for the business SEAT. From there, they wrote songs and performed at local watering holes.
Estopa was signed to a record deal by BMG Music Espaa after performing a song for the label's management. Their single from their debut album "Estopa," "La Raja de Tu Falda," became a huge smash when it was released on October 19, 1999. Some of the band's other popular songs include "Tu Calorro," "Suma y Sigue," and "El del Medio de Los Chichos," a tribute to the band Los Chichos.
After the success of "Estopa," the band released Destrangis in 2001, which quickly became a commercial success, selling 250,000 copies in its first two weeks. Fans responded well to the album, which led to a tour of Latin American countries. The Muoz brothers followed up their debut Destrangis album with a second one with three live tracks as extras. The title of that piece was "Más Destrangis." 2004 saw the release of their fourth album, "La Calle es Tuya?" after a two-year wait.
