Eric Tessmer Information
Eric Tessmer (August 19, 1981) is an American blues guitarist. His father was a guitarist, and he was named after Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. A Wisconsin native, Tessmer uprooted to Austin, Texas, when he was 19 to pursue a career in guitar. He could not afford an apartment and was too young to get entry to nightclubs, so he took to singing in gospel choirs and making his rehearsal room his home.
First releasing their EP "Last Night at Joe's..." in 2005, the Eric Tessmer Band disbanded in 2008, and despite extensive touring and the CD Roots Rock Rhythm release in 2010, Tessmer remained largely under the radar. In 2015, Tessmer gave up alcohol and began releasing EPs; several of these EPs have songs on recovery. Tessmer was voted "Best Guitarist in Austin" by Austin area residents in the 2018 Austin Music Awards survey conducted by the Austin Chronicle. Tessmer's partnership with Heart's Nancy Wilson officially kicked in in 2019.
Early in his career in Austin, Texas, people often drew comparisons between Tessmer and guitarist and songwriter Stevie Ray Vaughan. His guitar playing has been compared to Vaughan's for as long as anyone can remember. He now plays a surf-green replica of the 1959 Fender Stratocaster, courtesy of the Fender.
