Emmanuel Information
Emmanuel (April 16, 1955) is a Mexican singer born in Mexico City. Chosica is a hamlet about an hour outside Lima, where Emmanuel spent his formative years attending the Augustinian-run Colegio Santa Rosa, the area's premier boarding school. Conchita Martínez, a Spanish singer, was his mother. Ballads, which Emmanuel frequently performs, were huge in the '80s.
Íntimamente (Intimately), Manuel Alejandro's fourth and most successful album to date, was co-written by Ana Magdalena and the renowned Spanish ballad writer. "La Chica de Humo" ("The Smoke Girl"), a New jack swing tune that he recorded in 1989, became a smash in Ibero-America and also peaked at number one on the U.S. Hot Latin Tracks.
The 1989 album Quisiera used the theme. The song and its music video became a classic throughout Ibero-America in the 1980s after playing nonstop on music channels in Argentina, Uruguay, and Mexico. Emmanuel was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from Billboard Latin Music in 2011.
He received the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award a decade ago. In 1997, he was honored with the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award for his charitable endeavors.
