Emily Wells Information
Emily Wells (November 20, 1981) is an American producer, arranger, composer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist. She was born in Amarillo, Texas. The young artist's first cassette release was an unauthorized 100-copy run when she was thirteen. In 2000, after releasing many unofficial demos, she allegedly "took up" Epic Records but did not officially sign with them. Wells wrote, sang on, produced, and mixed every track on her 2006 first full-length, Beautiful Sleepyhead & the Laughing Yaks. Joey Reina joined Wells on bass and Sam Halterman on drums on her sophomore album, The Symphonies.
On the September 18, 2009, broadcast of NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly, Wells was a guest and performed "Symphony 1 in the Barrel of a Gun." Wells brought out vocalist and harmonium player Shilpa Ray in September 2010 after she had recently relocated from Los Angeles to New York. The show got rave reviews in the New Yorker.
She released her debut studio album, Mama, on Partisan Records in 2012. On April 10, 2012, the lead track, "Mama's Gonna Offer You Love," was featured in The New Yorker. She has also distributed for free on Partisan a remixed version of Mama by artists like Jeremiah Jae, Kid Koala, Baths, and Deerhoof.
