El Monstero - Tribute to Pink Floyd Information
El Monstero is a Pink Floyd tribute band based in St. Louis. The group was founded by the members of the band Stir, including Brad Booker, Andy Schmidt, Kevin Gagnepain, along with singer Mark Quinn, in 1999. Since its inception, the band has become recognized as a holiday tradition with many St. Louisans. The group plays around 5 to 7 shows at The Pageant Theater selling out every Christmas season. El Monstero consists of musicians from several bands, but together, they have been recreating the music of Pink Floyd in the Midwest since its founding year.
The first tribute show by El Monstero was held on November 27, 1999, at Mississippi Nights. The band members were somewhere between album cycles when they decided to book a cover band show to make some extra money. They called themselves "El Monstero Y Los Masked Avengers.” The group members initially played many cover songs but exclusively focused on Pink Floyd tunes. Soon, El Monstero’s concerts turned out to be an annual tradition.
El Monstero has added shows in Kansas City and Springfield, MO, currently and a summer show in St. Louis in various large venues, including Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, Jefferson Barracks Military Post, and Art Hill in Forest Park. The tribute band's setlist always contains selections from albums such as Wish You Were Here, The Wall, The Dark Side of the Moon, and Animals.
