Duane Betts Information
Duane Betts (April 16, 1978) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was born in Sarasota, Florida. Betts started out playing the drums, but by the time he was 12, he had moved on to the guitar. On June 24, 1994, at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheatre in Vail, Colorado, he made his live debut as a special guest of The Allman Brothers Band. He joined the group later that summer and performed with them at the Woodstock '94 festival.
Betts joined the roots-rock band Backbone69 in 1998, along with Alex Orbison on drums, Berry Oakley Jr. on bass, and Chris Williams on vocals. The band's self-titled debut was recorded in 1999 at Ocean Way Nashville Recording Studios with producer Bobby Blazier. The ORBY Records label put out the record. The band called it quits after Williams was killed in a vehicle accident in 2001.
Whitestarr, featuring Betts, Orbison, and singer Cisco Adler, was active from 2002 to 2005. The band was contracted to Atlantic Records (before being dropped), toured with Kid Rock, and played at the 2004 Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
After Dickey left the Allman Brothers Band in 2000, he established Great Southern and requested his son Betts to join in 2005. Betts has appeared on Dickey Betts & Great Southern: Rockpalast 30 Years of Southern Rock 1978-2008, and the band has toured the United States and other countries.
