Doc Robinson's current, extensive catalog of "backyard BBQ breakup music" is typified by loose lineups, tight arrangements, and an impeccable ability for basic, snappy pop hooks. In 2016, Nick D'Andrea and Jon Elliott dumped their soulful influences into a knapsack. They brought the band together as a mashup of their two favorite artists (Smokey Robinson and Dr. Dog), hiring a rotation of Columbus's top R&B players as All-Star bedrock.
Robinson ushers in a new chapter for the young, accomplished band after D'Andrea's amicable exit to pursue his abilities solo and after the release of four CDs in two years and a lengthy tour supporting Ohio upstarts CAAMP. Elliott has assumed the Smokey role, leading the band into a new period where their catalog of upbeat singles helps ease the sting of losing D'Andrea.
