Daniel Lavoie Information
Daniel Lavoie (March 17, 1949) is a Canadian singer, actor, and musician. He was born in Dunrea, Manitoba, Canada. In 1967, Daniel Lavoie won the "Jeunesse Oblige" CBC talent search for singer-songwriters. Soon after, he started performing with bands (first Spectre, then Dieu de l'amour vous aime) across Quebec. His original name was Gérald, but he legally changed it to Daniel. Singles "Marie connue" (1973) and "S'endormir pour une rose" (1974) were released by Daniel Lavoie.
His 1975 debut album, A court terme, was only somewhat successful. The album saw particular success in France, Portugal, and Brazil, with "J'ai quitté mon île" becoming a top hit in all three countries. In 2009, CBC Radio listeners chose "J'ai quitté mon île" as one of the top 49 songs across all genres that best represented Canada's identity to gift to Barack Obama on an iPod for his inauguration.
While his second album, 1977's Berceuse pour un Lion, featured multiple singles ("Dans le temps des animaux," "La Vérité sur la vérité," and "Berceuse pour un lion," among others,) it was 1979's Nirvana bleu that earned Daniel Lavoie widespread acclaim in his home province. He played all around Quebec and in France (at Paris's Théâtre Montparnasse in 1980). The demand for his live performances was on the rise.
