Cornell Gunters Coasters Information
The Coasters is a brief name given to Cornell Gunters Coasters. They are an American blues/rock and roll along with rhythm vocal group. The band has a string of hits in the 1950s. Their most popular and memorable songs were written by the famous producing and songwriting team of Leiber and Stoller. The Coasters was formed on October 12, 1955. This happened when only two of The Robins were willing to go to Atlantic Records.
The Coasters’ association with Leiber and Stoller brought some immediate success to the group. They collaborated positively and produced some good-humored “storytelling” hits. Their first single was released in 1956 called “Down in Mexico.” It was an R&B hit of that time.
The current lead members of The Coasters are; Primotivo Candelaria (baritone vocals), Robert Fowler (bass vocals), J.W. Lance (previously tenor vocals), and Dennis Anderson (tenor vocals). Robert Fowler became a part of the group in the year 2016 when Eddie Whitfield got ill. Dennis Anderson joined the group in 2011 after Cark Gardner passed away. Card Gardner personally handpicked Primitivo (Primo), and he joined The Coasters in 2008. Joe Lance Williams joined the group in 2001.
The Coasters released their debut studio album in 1960 entitled “The Coasters One by One,” whereas their second album was released in 1972 called “On Broadway.” Their compilation albums include The Coasters (1957), The Coasters’ Greatest Hits (1959), Coast Along with the Coasters (1962), That is Rock & Roll (1965), and Their Greatest Recordings: The Early Years (1971).
