Closebye Information
Jonah Paul Smith and Julian Paint Smith were born in Dallas, Texas, in 1997, but their families are unrelated. Their relationship was sealed after an incident with organic orange juice at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts cafeteria. 2016, the couple relocated to New York City and began attending The New School. In 2017, they came together as Pueblo and released their debut EP, "Boring the Camera."
The band members honed their unique folk-rock style during their time at university, drawing inspiration from a variety of sources, including Elliott Smith's baroque-pop songwriting, Aimee Man's humorous adult contemporary, and The Dandy Warhols' carefree college rock singalongs. During the day, the band members took Jazz Studies and English Literature classes at various New York City universities. At night, the band performed at prestigious venues such as Elsewhere and Baby's All Right, where they were joined by other up-and-coming indie acts such as Ritt Momney, Wallice, Mamalarky, and Toledo. In April 2022, the group Closebye dropped their first full-length, "Lucid News."
The nine tracks in this album trace an uncomfortable journey through time, from nostalgia and acceptance to resignation and forgiveness. Tim Bright (Kate Davis, Lisa Loeb, Grey Reverend) produced the record in Bearsville, New York. At the same time, Josh Block (Leon Bridges, Caamphttps://www.ticketsonsale.com/concerts/caamp, White Denim) and Robert Ellis (Niles City Sound) contributed to the album's creation. With the album's release, the band's roster was finalized with the addition of Ian Salazar on keyboards, Margaux Bouchgnies on bass, and Simon Clinton on drums.
