Clan of XYMOX Information
Clan of Xymox, or Xymox, is a rock band from the Netherlands. Sean Gobel, Mario Usai, Mojca Zugna, and Ronny Moorings make up the band's current lineup. The band formed in 1981 and is one of the founding groups of the darkwave genre. Clan of Xymox was formed in Nijmegen, Netherlands, in 1983 by Ronny Moorings (vocals, guitar) and Anka Wolbert (bass). (Vocals, bass) After a year in Amsterdam, moorings and Wolbert founded Xymox and published the mini-album Subsequent Pleasures. The album was limited to 500 copies.
The group released a five-track EP called Subsequent Pleasures in 1983 under the moniker "Xymox." After Brendan Perry invited them to support Dead Can Dance on a UK tour, they were signed to the indie label 4AD, which released their self-titled debut album in 1985.
The band recorded two Peel Sessions at the BBC in June and November 1985, based on the track 7th Time, which featured Anka Wolbert on lead vocals. Peel used the term "darkwave" to describe the band's dark and mournful sound.
Before joining PolyGram, they released their second and final album on 4AD, Medusa, in 1986. Simultaneously, with the help of Canadian studio musician Michael Brook, Pieter Nooten recorded and issued his CD Sleeps with the Fishes (4AD, 1987).
