Circle Jerks Information
Circle Jerks is an American hardcore punk band. The band was formed in 1979 in Los Angeles, California. The group was founded by former Keith Morris, who was a former vocalist of Black Flag and Greg Hetson, who was the guitarist of Redd Kross. The band did their first recording in spring 1980. Morris formed the Circle Jerks named initially “Bedwetters.” Lucky Lehrer, one of the members of the group, didn’t like the name, so he started to search for a new name through a dictionary of slang words and then renamed it to “Circle Jerks.”
The band recorded their debut studio album “Group Sex” and released it in October 1980 under the Frontier Records label. Several songs of the album were written by Morris when he was a member of the Black Flag. Circle Jerks signed with IRS Group in 1980. Under the label, the band started to record its second album “Wild in the Streets” that was released in 1982. The title track of the album was a cover song of Garland Jeffreys.
In 1983, Circle Jerks recorded their third album “Golden Shower of Hits.” The album was released under Goldstein’s LAX Records label. The title track of this album was exclusive because it was a medley of six cover songs. After the success of the record, the band kept throwing new albums in the market, such as “Wonderful (1985)”, “VI (1987)”, and “Oddities, Abnormalities, and Curiosities (1995)”.
Circle Jerks have also released a few Live Albums such as Gig (1992), and Live at the Fillmore 1982 (2010). Their popular singles include “I’m Gonna Live,” “Teenage Electric,” and a few more.
