Chris Cohen is an American singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter. He was born in Los Angeles, California. Cohen appeared on Dave Markey's 1991 Sonic Youth song "Cinderella's Big Score." Alex Cohen is a reporter and host for public radio. His first instrument was the drum, which he learned to play at 3. He then learned to compose music by adding his overdubs to a four-track tape.
On the Captured Tracks label, Cohen has three records under his name: Overgrown Path (2012), As If Apart (2016), and Chris Cohen (2019). Cohen self-produced and recorded his first two albums, referring to them as "companion pieces" in an interview. Before going under his name, Cohen composed music for The Curtains, Deerhoof, Natural Dreamers, and Cryptacize, a band he formed with Michael Carreira and Nedelle Torrisi.
Following the demise of Cryptacize, Cohen performed with Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti and White Magic on guitar or percussion. He performed and recorded with Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Danielson, and EZTV and toured and recorded with Cass McCombs. He co-produced and played drums on Weyes Blood's 2016 Front Row Seat to Earth album. At the moment, Cohen performs with his band and Park Detail's Band, a collaboration with Yasi Perera.
