Cherry Poppin Daddies Information
The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies is an American ska and swing band founded in 1989 in Eugene, Oregon. The current lineup of the band includes Steve Perry (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Dan Schmid (bass), Dana Heitman (trumpet), Willie Matheis (tenor saxophone and bari saxophone), Zak Johnson (lead guitar, backing vocals, and banjo), Josh Hettwer (alto saxophone), and Matt Hettwer (trombone and keyboards). Throughout their 30 years career, the members have gone through several lineup changes.
In July 1989, The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies recorded their first-ever demo cassette entitled “4 From On High.” The tape reportedly sold over 1,000 copies in the Portland and Eugene areas. The cassette equipped the band to self-produce their debut LP entitled “Ferociously Stoned.” In 1995, the Daddies dedicated themselves to full-time touring and played over 200 shows across two or three national tours every year.
Throughout their career, the Daddies worked with a few record labels such as Space Age Bachelor Padm Rock Ridge, and Mojo. Some of the band’s notable singles include “Zoot Suit Riot” (1997), “Brown Derby Jump” (1998), “Here Comes the Snake” (1998), “Diamond Light Boogie” (2000), “I Love American Music” (2013), “Gym Rat” (2019), “Diesel PunX” (2019), “Yankee Pride” (2019), and “Faux Nice, Mock Fancy” (2020).
Their studio albums include Rapid City Muscle Car (December 12, 1994), Kids on the Street (February 6, 1996), Soul Caddy (October 3, 2000), Susqyehanna (February 19, 2008), White Teeth, Black Thoughts (July 16, 2013), Please Return the Evening (July 29, 2014), The Boop-A-Doo (January 22, 2016), and Bigger Life (June 14, 2019).
