Blue Öyster Cult, often abbreviated BÖC or BOC, is one of the popular American bands. The group was founded in 1967, in Stony Brook, New York. Its music genres are hard-rock, heavy metal, occult rock, and progressive rock. The existing lineup of the band consists of Buck Dharma – lead guitar, vocals; Eric Bloom – lead vocals, stun guitar, keyboards, synthesizers; Danny Miranda – bass, backing vocals; Richie Castellano – keyboards, rhythm guitar, backing vocals; and Jules Radino – drums, percussion. Blue Öyster Cult first originated as a group called Soft White Underbelly. The name of the band originated from a 1960s poem written by manager Sandy Pearlman, of the same name.
Blue Öyster Cult was the debut album by the band that was released in January 1972. Some of the hit songs included in the collection are "Stairway to the Stars," "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll", and "Then Came the Last Days of May". Their next album was Tyranny and Mutation, released in 1973. It was followed by Secret Treaties (1974), Agents of Fortune (1976), Spectres (1977), Mirrors (1979), Cultösaurus Erectus (1980), Fire of Unknown Origin (1981), The Revölution by Night (1983), Club Ninja (1985), Curse of the Hidden Mirror (2001), and a few more.
Blue Öyster Cult is best known for the singles "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll," "Burnin' for You," and "Godzilla." The band has successfully sold 25 million records worldwide, which include seven million in the United States alone. The group is heavily influenced by artists such as The Blues Project, Alice Cooper, Grateful Dead, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, and a few more.
