Black Oak Arkansas is a rock ensemble founded in 1970 and originated from Black Oak, Arkansas. The band was previously known as The Knowbody Else (1963–1970) and Black Oak (1977-1984). The original lineup of the group consists of James L. Mangrum (AKA Jim "Dandy" Mangrum) – lead vocals, washboard; Rickie Lee "Risky"/"Ricochet" Reynolds – rhythm guitar, vocals, and 12-string guitar. The current touring members of Black Oak Arkansas are James L. Mangrum (AKA Jim "Dandy" Mangrum), Rickie Lee "Risky"/"Ricochet" Reynolds, Sammy B. Seauphine ("Lil Bit"), David Flexer – lead guitar, Billy Little – bass guitar, and Johnnie Bolin – drums.
Black Oak Arkansas reached the height of its fame in the 1970s when it charted a few of that decade's albums. In 1970, Black Oak Arkansas was signed by Atco Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1971. The band toured and gained a reputation as a premier live act. Their debut album was followed by Keep the Faith in 1972.
Some other notable studio albums by Black Oak Arkansas are If an Angel Came to See You, High on the Hog, Would You Make Her Feel At Home?, Ain't Life Grand, 10 Yr Overnight Success, and Live on the King Biscuit Flower Hour. The group also released a few compilations such as The Best of Black Oak Arkansas 1977 and 'Hot And Nasty' And Other Hits 1997.
