Bernie Williams Information
Bernabe Williams Figueroa Jr. (September 13, 1968) is a Puerto Rican musician and former professional baseball player. From 1991 through 2006, Williams played his 16-year career with the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was a center fielder for the team. He has also been a member of four World Series championship teams while he was in Yankees. Williams won four Gold Glove Awards and was a five-time All-Star. He is regarded as one of the greatest switch-hitting center fielders in the history of baseball.
Williams is also a trained classical guitarist. After he retired from baseball, he focused on his second passion and released a few jazz albums. In 2009, he was also nominated for a Latin Grammy award. Musically, he has been influenced by Latin, Brazilian, pop, classical, and jazz sounds. He signed a publishing deal with MPL Communications of Paul McCartney. On June 22, 2003, Williams released his debut major-label album entitled, The Journey Within.
Williams composed seven albums for his debut album. He studied guitar and composition at the State University of New York at Purchase. On April 14, 2009, Williams released his second studio album entitled, Moving Forward. The album included fourteen songs. It also featured collaborative songs with other artists such as Dave Koz, Jon Secada, Patti Scialfa, and Bruce Springsteen. He participated in the World Rhythms Tour with Basia in 2010. Williams performed at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games opening ceremony on July 18, 2010.
