Band-Maid Information
Band Maid is a Japanese rock band. The current lineup of the group consists of Saiki Atsumi, Misa, Akane Hirose, Kanami Tono, and Miku Kobato. It all started in July of 2013 when the ensemble got together. Guitarist/singer Miku Kobato had worked at a Japanese maid café and wanted to start a band that would contrast the stereotypical image of a maid with their music. Kobato's main guitarist Kanami Tno was found through an online search by the band's manager. Tno was a singer-songwriter before recommending her friend and infrequent drummer Akane Hirose to join the new group.
The music video for "Thrill" by Band-Maid was pushed on the English-language Facebook page of internet radio station Jrock Radio in April 2015, leading to over 1 million views in the following year. Their first international show was in March 2016 at Sakura-Con in Seattle, Washington. Nippon Crown's sub-label Crown Stones issued the group's third mini-album, Brand New Maid, in May 2016, and JPU Records published the album in Europe in July.
The band's third studio album, Conqueror, was published in December 2019. This record had one track that Tony Visconti produced. It debuted at number nine on Japan's Oricon weekly albums list and number one on the Oricon Weekly Rock Albums chart. The EP Unleash by Band-Maid was published on September 21, 2022. On November 6, Band-Maid served as the opening act for Guns N' Roses' 2020 Tour.
