Astrobrite Information
Astorbrite is an American shoegazing project. The current group lineup comprises Ryan Davis, Kelly Coffey, and Scott Cortez. From its humble beginnings as a one-man band in 1993, Astrobrite has come a long way since its first tour in 1995. In 1997, Scott Cortez relocated to Toledo, Ohio, for six months, and Astrobrite paused indefinitely. At the beginning of 1998, he moved to Chicago. Crush, Astrobrite's debut album, featured songs recorded between 1995 and 1997 and was released in 2001. Crush and 8 Candy EP were mastered and mixed by Adam Cooper (Alison's Halo).
The rest of 2001 found Scott Cortez jetting to Tokyo for the Seven Winters shoegaze festival. The trip paved the way for future collaborations with members of the Japanese shoegazer scene, which resulted in the recording of a studio version of "Crush" dubbed "Supercrush" and featuring members of Coaltar of the Deepers' Narasaki, Melt Banana's (Watchman) Tak Dive, and Dive.
When "Pinkshinyultrablast" was released in 2004 by Astrobrite on Vinyl Junkie Records in Japan, the band was quickly snapped up. Cortez recorded and performed with STAR from 2004 to 2008, in addition to his work with Astrobrite. Vinyl Junkie released a new studio album on April 17, 2007, titled Whitenoise Superstar (also stylized as whitenoisesuperstar).
