Anohni Information
Anohni Hegarty (1971), often known as ANOHNI, is an American singer-songwriter and visual artist. She is well-known for her solo performances and her time as lead vocalist of the band Antony and the Johnsons, currently called Anohni and the Johnsons. She started in the music industry as a member of the New York band Antony and the Johnsons. In 2000, David Tibet's label Durtro published their self-titled first album.
Their second album, I Am a Bird Now (2005), was critically and commercially successful and won her the Mercury Music Prize. On rare occasions, Anohni worked with other artists. She started performing with Lou Reed in 2003 as a backing vocalist on his Animal Serenade tour and then as a featured artist on many songs from Reed's album The Raven.
The news of Anohni's band's return, rechristened Anohni and the Johnsons, was revealed on May 16, 2023. The band's new track "It Must Change" features British trans campaigner Munroe Bergdorf in its music video, which Jimmy Hogarth created. The band announced that Rough Trade and Secretly Canadian would release My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross on July 7, 2023, including an Alvin Baltrop portrait of Marsha P. Johnson.
