Animals As Leaders Information
Animals as Leaders is an instrumental progressive metal band. The current lineup consists of Matt Garstka (drums), Javier Reyes (guitars and bass), and Tosin Abasi (guitars and bass). After guitarist Tosin Abasi's former metalcore band, Reflux broke up; he began working on what would become Animals as Leaders. Abasi's guitar skills caught the attention of the heavy metal label Prosthetic Records, which commissioned him to record a solo album.
Animals as Leaders, their debut album, was recorded at the beginning of 2008. Most of the album's guitar and bass parts were recorded by Abasi, while engineer Misha Mansoor (Periphery, Haunted Shores) programmed a few guitar solos, percussion, and synthesized effects. On April 28, 2009, Prosthetic Records released their album to the public. This band was on the road a lot in 2010. They were on the Summer Slaughter Tour with bands like Decapitated, Vital Remains, Carnifex, The Faceless, All Shall Perish, The Red Chord, Cephalic Carnage, Veil of Maya, and Decrepit Birth, and they've since toured with more mainstream bands like Circa Survive and Dredg.
Later that year, they released a downloadable single on iTunes titled "Wave of Babies" that was not part of an album. From the middle of 2010 through the beginning of 2011, the band toured with Circa Survive, Dredg, and Codeseven; at the beginning of 2011, they traveled with Underoath, Thursday, and A Skylit Drive to promote Underoath's most recent album (Disambiguation).
