Alvaro Torres Information
Alvaro Torres (April 9, 1954) is a Salvadoran singer and songwriter. He was born in Usulutan, El Salvador. After relocating to Guatemala, Torres began a solo career in 1976 with the release of "Algo especial" (Something Special). His album "Acariciame" (Caress Me) came out in 1977, and he represented Chile at the seventh annual OTI Festival in Santiago, Chile, the following year after being chosen by TCS. Even though he tied for second-to-last position with Colombian competitor Billy Pontoni, that did not derail his career.
He rose to prominence in the '80s. Torres emigrated to America a few years down the road. After settling in Florida, he spent time in Colorado and California. The 1991 release of "Nada Se Compara Contigo" marked a watershed moment in Torres's creative career. In 1994, he was chosen as BMI's Songwriter of the Year. When he was twelve, he wrote his first song, "Dulce Amiga," about a childhood friend who let him watch TV at her house. The woman became his driving force ever since.
At the same time, Álvaro met Pepe Rodas, the director of the Radio Corporación, in one of the eateries where he performed. Rodas invited him to the studios to record the demo that would alter his life's trajectory. Rodas presented him with a record of instrumental music by the Franck Pourcel Orchestra and a letter that Rodas had written specifically for that tune while they were in the studio.
