The Allman Brothers is an American band. The current lineup consists of Duane Allman and Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson. Although sales of their first two studio albums, Capricorn Records' The Allman Brothers Band (1969) and Idlewild South (1970), faltered, the band's 1971 live album At Fillmore East was a critical and economic success.
It's widely regarded as one of the best live albums of all time and comprises extended versions of the songs "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Whipping Post." By the first of May, the band had relocated to Macon, Georgia, where Walden had just launched Capricorn Records. Two of the earliest members of the band's crew were named Mike Callahan and Joseph "Red Dog" Campbell. A Vietnam War veteran known as "Red Dog" would contribute the money he received from the government each month to the group's efforts.
The band and crew remained at the flat of friend Twiggs Lyndon at 309 College Street, which became known as the Hippie Crash Pad. In 1970, the band was on the road nonstop, playing over 300 shows from the comfort of their Ford Econoline van and eventually their Wind Bag-nick named Winnebago.
