Alex Cuba Information
Alex Cuba (1974) is a Cuban-Canadian singer and songwriter. He was in Artemisa, Cuba. He eventually moved into jazz fusion as an adult. After meeting and marrying a Canadian woman in Cuba, he moved there permanently in 1999. At first, he and his twin brother Adonis established themselves in Victoria, British Columbia, where they performed under the Puentes Brothers and were nominated for Best Global Album at the 2001 Juno Awards. In 2004, they decided to pursue separate careers and break up as a band. Cuba relocated to Smithers, British Columbia, in 2003 to be near Sarah's family. Daniel Puentes, Rose Puentes, and Owen Puentes are their three children.
Humo De Tabaco is his first full-length album, featuring guests like Ron Sexsmith and Corinne Bailey Rae. The duet "Lo Mismo Que Yo," included Sexsmith, climbed to No. 52 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2009, he collaborated with fellow Canadian Nelly Furtado on a duet they both penned and recorded. The song "Mi Plan" became the name of her fourth studio album. Most of the tracks on Furtado's CD were written by Cuban collaborators.
He blends various musical styles, including funk, jazz, and pop, to create his sound, predominantly influenced by Latin and African music. On November 21, 2013, he was awarded a Latin Grammy. It was his fourth Grammy nomination for 2021's Mendó, but 2022's Best Latin Pop Album win was his first Grammy victory.
